See yourself in greater detail with KCMC's 64-slice CT technology.

Advanced diagnostic imaging allows physicians to see more than ever before. Capturing amazing detail in mere seconds, it can also speed your diagnosis and treatment. It's the most advanced imaging technology available and you'll find it right here at Kershaw County Medical Center.

New Technology
The new device produces precise diagnostic pictures within five to 10 seconds - less than half the time of all current scanners -- with much greater detail and resolution. With the 64-slice CT scanner, specialists can take three-dimensional images of the heart and body to better define certain disease processes and treatments.

Faster Diagnosis and Treatment
To produce a CT image, computer-driven scanners pass X-rays through the body, simultaneously gathering 64 different images or "slices" of an organ or tissue. The greater the number of images and increased speed improves the resolution of the picture. A computer then uses these slices to reconstruct highly detailed, 3-D images of the heart, lungs, other organs, bones and blood vessels throughout the body. Within minutes of a scan, experts at KCMC can determine if a patient needs an invasive procedure such as surgery, or if a non-invasive solution is possible.

The Fastest Imaging in Medicine
In the time it takes for a patient to hold her breath for just 10 seconds, the new 64-slice CT scanner can detect the earliest signs of heart disease as well as lung disease, cancer and other diseases.

Advantages of 64-Slice Technology
The country's most advanced ability to look inside the body in a non-invasive way

  • Can detect the earliest signs of heart disease as well as lung disease, stroke, cancer and other diseases in the liver and kidney.
  • Takes 3-D images of the heart and body in such high detail that experts can provide faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendations
  • Completed in a single held breath - five to 10 seconds. Previous technology was three to five times longer.
