ABOUT KERSHAW COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER

The West Wateree Medical Complex
Therapeutic Pool

Aquatics therapy pool features:
  • 22’ x 30’
  • Easy access steps with handrails
  • Tile bench whirlpool area
  • Tethered swimming/resistance area
  • 3 ½ to 4 ½ foot deep exercise area
  • Hydraulic lift chair for patients
  • Buoyancy. Warmth. The stabilizing, weightlessness of water. It’s the perfect environment for physical therapy.

Some patients who need physical therapy find it difficult to exercise on land. They may be recovering from orthopedic injuries or surgeries, living with the pain of arthritis or have other limitations that prevent them from weight bearing exercise on land.

For them, aquatics therapy is a welcome relief.

The new therapeutic warm water pool at Kershaw County Medical Center’s West Wateree Medical Complex provides a cushioning effect that protects the body and relaxes muscles -- to help patients begin their rehabilitation process sooner.

Experienced physical therapists, including our certified aquatics therapy instructor, help patients progress with advanced strength to land exercises, making aquatics therapy an important part of our comprehensive rehabilitation program.

The ability to swim is not necessary to participate in aquatic therapy. In most cases, a physician’s referral is required.

Why aquatics therapy? The benefits are clear.

  • Increased circulation
  • Increased range of motion
  • Balance
  • Coordination and muscle tone
  • Less stress to joints during exercise
