Letter to the Community
Today, we are entering a growth phase based on sound strategy and proven success. We
are finding new ways to meet our community’s expanding healthcare needs. And we are embarking on a strategic initiative with countywide benefits.
We’ve broken ground in Elgin and are in the process of purchasing real estate in Camden. We are reaching into Kershaw, Bethune and Mt. Pisgah. We’re doing this because every Kershaw County family deserves healthcare that not only meets needs, but exceeds expectations.
We spent much of the last year preparing for this new initiative. We listened to the needs of our community and tracked the trends that will direct the future of healthcare. We restructured finances and took action in advance of demand, so we’ll be prepared when our friends and neighbors need us.
Still, growth is rarely without its pains.
The entire healthcare industry is in a period of rapid change. New technologies are changing the way we perform surgeries, diagnostics and other services. Pharmaceuticals are advancing at an unprecedented pace. Insurance changes and increased competition are bringing new challenges
in financial responsibility. The old models of care are becoming obsolete as new ways are racing forward.
In the face of these challenges, we are fulfilling our commitment to our community.
In our Medical Center, we’re performing 55 percent more surgeries than we did a decade ago. Due to the hospital expansion begun in 2003, we are well equipped to handle this, and prepared for even more future growth.
We’re also identifying early signs of heart disease, thus helping to prevent heart attacks, thanks to the state-of-the-art cardiovascular lab we developed as part of the same expansion effort. Now, we’re better equipped to handle our community’s elevated heart disease rates.
You may wonder why we are so dedicated to Kershaw County. It’s quite simply because this is our home. We live here, we raise our families here, and we will do everything in our power to enhance the health of our friends and neighbors.
